Consumption of chocolate has been linked to heart health, with studies showing that the flavonoids can slow the oxidation of the bad cholesterol (LDL). When bad cholesterol becomes oxidised, it can clog the blood vessels.
Cacao is also a source of potassium, which is important for keeping the heart healthy.
It is thought that eating chocolate in moderation may help to lower blood pressure.

How to consume cacao
Cacao beans can be eaten straight from the tree, although the taste is quite bitter. The beans can also be used to make raw cacao powder. If you find the taste too bitter, raw cacao can be used to make cakes, fudge and milkshakes.
All chocolate contains cacao in varying amounts, but some of the nutrients are lost during processing. Unsweetened or baking chocolate is usually nearly 100 percent cacao, followed by dark chocolate which is available with 45 percent to 80 percent cacao. Milk chocolate contains the least, at around 10 percent. Technically, white chocolate isn’t really chocolate, as it contains cocoa butter, but not any chocolate liquor.
If you choose to consume cacao by eating chocolate, remember to only eat it in moderation, as chocolate also contains sugar.
