Health Benefits of Blueberries

 

Blueberries are native to North America, belonging to the same genus as bilberries and cranberries. Cultivated blueberries were introduced to Europe in the 1930s. They contain various nutrients, including vitamin A, vitamin C and manganese.

Heart health

Due to the antioxidant phytonutrients found in blueberries, they may be beneficial for heart health. These nutrients can help to dissolve the bad cholesterol (LDL), therefore preventing it from forming hard plaque on the artery walls.

The protective compounds that are found in blueberries can also help to strengthen the cardiac muscles.

 

A serving of blueberries provides approximately 30 percent of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C, as well as 10 percent of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin E.

Blueberry Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients you will need…

 

1 cup of organic blueberries (add more blueberries if you want a thicker smoothie)

1 organic banana (optional, bananas are a good contrast to blueberries and would add a good texture to your smoothie)

2 teaspoons of bee pollen (super smoothie booster, bee pollen works better when added to fruit)

1 cup of unsweetened almond milk or filtered water (add water in stages for required thickness)

2 teaspoons of organic lucuma powder (lucuma powder LINK is delicious and will take your smoothie to another level)

Steps to make the blueberry smoothie

Step 1:

place 1 cup organic blueberries into the smoothie maker, next the organic banana, now add the unsweetened almond milk or water (add the water in stages for required thickness), then add the organic lucuma powder.

step 2:

Blend the ingredients for 30 seconds or until smooth enough for your liking.

step 3:

Add contents to a glass, add the bee pollen and mix with a fork (bee pollen would be damaged by blending and you wouldn’t get the full benefits.) Drink and enjoy the amazing health benefits of blueberries.
